SEDATION Options

What are the benefits of Sedation Dentistry? Sedation alleviates fear and anxiety, helps eliminate pain and discomfort, and reduces gag reflex.

It also allows tense muscles to relax making the procedure comfortable for you.

TYPES OF SEDATION

We offer three types of sedation. They can be used separately or in combination. Your individual requirements will be discussed. If sedation is agreed upon, your vital signs will be monitored to ensure your safety during treatment.

Nitrous Oxide: This option is considered as one of the safest methods of dental sedation. Commonly known as “laughing gas,” this technique uses a blend of nitrous and oxygen, which is administered through a mask that’s worn over the mouth. Nitrous oxide is designed to enhance relaxation during treatment while you remain conscious and in control throughout the procedure.

Oral Sedation: Oral sedation is another excellent option for patients who wish to remain conscious but relaxed during the procedure. Oral conscious sedation often involves taking a sedative-hypnotic drug the night before an appointment as well as at the start of the appointment the following morning. You will need a companion to drive you home after the appointment. Oral sedation may be discussed according to your specific needs.

Intravenous Sedation: This option is a form of moderate sedation. With IV sedation, you’ll receive the sedative drug through a vein, so it goes to work very quickly. Our office works with a dental anesthesiologist to provide IV sedation services. You will be unconscious for the treatment. You will need a companion to drive you home after the appointment. The anesthesiologist will consult directly with you prior to your endodontic treatment appointment to go over your medical history, pre and post-operative instructions, and sedation fees.
